First, and foremost, knowing the problem is half the battle. Make sure that the problem you are dealing with has been diagnosed by a fully licensed physician and is in fact a Yeast Infection. There is no sense in trying to cure something if you are not sure what it is in the first place. Other causes of some of these symptoms may include: bacterial or parasitic infection, Gardnerella Vaginalis, Trichomonas and Chlamydia; even Syphilis or Gonorrhea. If necessary, get a second opinion on the matter.
Now, with that out of the way, please read on.
FACTS
Some people are more prone to Candida infections than others. Although this also holds true for any disease, your likelihood of a Yeast Infection depends on various factors including your natural body chemistry, whether you are an immunocompromised person (diabetic, HIV/AIDS, transplant and cancer patients, for example), your sex (women are more prone than men), the use of spermicides, birth control pills, menopause hormones, infertility treatments, unsafe sex, pregnancy and bad eating habits.

Candida albicans lives naturally in our bodies and it is only when this natural balance is upset that it becomes a problem for us (i.e. Candidiasis) giving way to an uncomfortable itchy/burning sensation, cheesy white vaginal discharges and oral thrush (white coating in the mouth), among other symptoms.
The use of antibiotics and steroids is the most common reason for yeast overgrowth. These kill the good bacteria necessary to keep Candida albicans under control allowing the yeast to grow freely.
Yeast grows best in warm, damp and dark environments making the mouth, skin folds, armpits and the vagina more vulnerable to its overdevelopment.
Candidemia is a systemic, life threatening infection. The superficial infections of the skin or mucous membranes in extreme cases can enter into the bloodstream and cause systemic Candida infections.
The most common yeast infection treatment is the application of a topical cream to the irritated skin. While this does provide temporary relief, it does nothing to treat the source of the problem.

The external use of irritants (some soaps, detergents or douches) and lactic acid bacteria can cause Candida overgrowth.
Sugar, starch and yeast are prime food for Candida.
Normal clothes laundering WILL NOT prevent the yeast from reinfecting you.
Heat and bleach can kill Candida fungus left in clothing.

HOME REMEDIES
Treatment of Garments that Have Come in Contact with Candida Discharges and Infections:Boiling your undergarments, then leaving them in bleach for a day before washing them will leave them yeast free. Using a hot dry iron to iron them, will also work, because extreme heat kills the fungus left in intimate garments due to vaginal discharges. Use unscented detergent for laundry and do not use fabric softener as this will irritate the tender skin.
Avoid Creating the Ideal Atmosphere for Candida Overgrowth:If there is no reason to wear undergarments like panties and underwear (when sleeping, for example), then do not wear them. Leave your genital or affected area as well ventilated as possible.
What to Wear:Loose clothing is better as it aids in proper ventilation of the infected zone. Avoid synthetic (nylon, polyester, etc.) fabrics and leather for undergarments. Also, avoid layers of clothing which will consequently raise the temperature of the infected area. White cotton is best for drying the dampness and textile dyes can further irritate the tender skin. The key here is to keep the infection as cool and dry as possible.
Practice Safe Sex:Always use unribbed condoms for intercourse to avoid passing the infection back and forth with your partner.
Due to insufficient natural lubrication, the vaginal walls can be torn or small cuts can be produced, therefore things like mineral oil, plain non sugared yogurt and egg whites may be used for lubrication (if you're not allergic to any of these). Petroleum jelly, although good as a lubricant, is not good for use with condoms because it can damage them.
If you decide to use spermicides, insert them in the condom reservoir. This will ensure their efficiency and avoid them getting into your vagina.
After anal sex, if it is to be followed by vaginal penetration, always clean the penis thoroughly with water only (any soap residue would cause further irritation).
Products to Avoid Using on Infected Areas:Any and all scented lotions, powders (most are starch based = food for Candida) and chemical potions (perfumes, deodorants, etc.),
Good oral hygiene: Although this is just plain common sense, daily brushing and flossing as well as the use of an antiseptic mouthwash is important. Your mouth is the intake port to the rest of your body. Poor oral hygiene gives way to many health problems and Candidiasis is no exception.
Eating Habits:Eating properly at consistent daily scheduled times makes your body strong to ward off disease in general. Avoid the consumption of: artificial sweetners, refined carbohydrates, hidden sugars (pastries, soft drinks, canned fruits and vegetables, etc.), all dried fruit, yeast breads, fermented beverages (beer, wine, brandy, scotch, etc.), fermented vinegars, peanuts, biscuits, canned citrus fruit juices, olives, mouldy cheeses, cake mix, salad dressings, ice cream, oranges, pickles, tomato sauce, sugars, yeast powder, processed and smoked meats, malt products, barbecue sauce, mayonnaise and chili peppers.

Use Tea Tree Oil: As a Mouthwash
For oral thrush, mix about 6 to 8 drops of tea tree oil in a glass with cold or warm water. Gargle for about a minute, letting the solution touch all the parts of the mouth (throat, palate and cheek lining), in the morning and before going to bed. Avoid swallowing the solution.
With an Applicator
For vaginal yeast infection, you can add a few drops of tea tree oil onto a tampon or sterile gauze and apply it on the affected area. Replace every 4 to 6 hours.
Use Plain Yoghurt:Make sure it has absolutely no sugar or other ingredients added to it. Make sure it contains live lactobacillus acidophilus, i.e. good bacteria to keep Candida albicans in check.
Application
For vaginal yeast infection, you can dip a tampon in the yogurt and insert it into the vagina. Do this twice a day until the symptoms disappear.
For skin problems, simply apply the yogurt directly to the affected area two to three times a day. This also provides a soothing effect and relieves the severe itching and burning. Let it stand for about an hour and then wash it off well. Remember to keep the affected area dry.
Use Apple Cider Vinegar:For oral thrush, just put 2 teaspoons of the vinegar in a cup of cool water and gargle. Avoid swallowing. Then dip a cotton swab in undiluted vinegar and apply it directly on the oral sores. Do not rinse and let stand overnight.
For vaginal yeast infection you can make a douching solution with 1 tablespoon of the vinegar and 2 cups of water. Add a garlic clove and let stand for two hours before using it for douching.
Diet Changes ...in a Nutshell This is something which should be taken up with your family doctor, but here are some guidelines:
-Low, to no sugar intake. This will starve the fungi.
-Take a multivitamin & mineral complex containing vitamin A and zinc. This way you provide all the nutrients you need for proper immune function and repairs the intestinal lining.
-Drink plenty of water to flush out toxins and lower your body temperature.
-Eat plenty of bananas, natural non sugared yoghurt and garlic.
-Avoid irregular eating habits.
